The advent of Christianity in the hills of Southern Manipur in 1910 was through the dedicated work of the young Watkin R. Roberts, an assistant to the medical missionary to Mizoram, Dr. Fraser. The journey of this young Welsh missionary was a response to the call of the Chief of Senvawn, Kamkholun, who invited him to explain the contents of the distributed Gospel of John to him personally. Roberts was assisted, guided and protected in his travel to Manipur by two local students, Thangkai and Lungpau, both of whom had the privilege of interacting with him in their quest to be educated. The South Manipur mission story is therefore, a coming together of these diverse journeys.
